Court Gives Buhari 5 Days To Respond To Alleged Certificate Fraud

The Court of Appeal Abuja division on Monday ordered President Muhammadu Buhari to respond within five days to the appeal filed against his qualification for the 2019 presidential election.
The court also ordered the All Progressives  Congress (APC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to within five respond to all issues raised on the educational qualification of the president in the election.
Justice Datti Yayaya who issued the order also directed that Buhari’s counsel, Mr. Abdullahi Abubakar, to within the period file necessary processes in relation to the appeal.
The appeal was filed by  Agu Kalu, Labaran Ismail, and Hassy El-Kuris.
The decision of the appellate court was sequel to a motion on notice filed by counsel to the appellants, Mr. Uchenna Ndubuisi.
Ndubuisi prayed the Court of Appeal in the motion to abridge within which Buhari, APC, and INEC will join issues with the appellants on the certificate suit.
Abubakar and Mr. Temitayo Lasaki counsel for APC had urged the appellate court in their response to the motion to give them five days to enable them to file their respondents’ brief of argument along with other processes so as to set the stage for the hearing of the substantive appeal.
Kalu, Ismail, and El-Kuris had approached the appellate court to nullify and set aside the Judgment of the Abuja division of the Federal High Court.
The lower court had declined to hear their suit instituted to challenge the educational qualification of President Buhari before the conduct of the 2019 general election.
The appellants in their appeal are asking the appellate court to reverse the judgment of Justice Ahmed Mohammed on the grounds that the processes filed by Buhari and used to strike out their suit were not competent.
While faulting the Judgment of the High Court, which was predicated on the grounds that the suit was statute barred, the appellants claimed that the Federal High Court erred in law and in its decision.
This they said was because they did not challenge the primary election that produced Buhari as the candidate of the APC.
They, therefore, urged the Court of Appeal to assume jurisdiction over the suit and grant all the reliefs sought at the Federal High Court but which were refused.
Among the reliefs were a declaration that Buhari submitted false information regarding his qualification and certificate to INEC for the purpose of contesting election into the office of the President of Nigeria and that he should be disqualified.
They also prayed for an order of the court directing INEC to remove Buhari’s name as a candidate of APC.
Also, an order restraining Buhari from parading himself as a candidate in the 2019 presidential election and also APC from recognizing Buhari as a candidate.
The Federal High Court had on May 2 declined to grant the request of the appellants on the grounds that the suit was not filed within the time allowed by law and therefore sustained the preliminary objection raised by Buhari at the hearing.
But not satisfied, the appellants are now asking the Court of Appeal to grant their reliefs because they are not challenging the primary election of APC as erroneously held by the lower court.
They said they are challenging the qualification of Buhari to stand for the presidential election without demonstrating his educational certificates as required by law.
July 8 was fixed for hearing of the appeal, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

‘If God Doesn’t Want Him, He Could Have Died’ — Rev Fr Mbaka Endorses Buhari

Rev. Fr Ejike Mbaka, the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, has endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for reelection.

Mbaka said Buhari could have died when he was sick if God didn’t want him, according to his new year message.
According to the priest, President Buhari is fighting corruption, repairing roads overgrown with weeds for years, and undertaking agricultural programmes like no President in the history of the country had done.
“A President that is fighting corruption needs to be supported,” he said.
“We pray for President Muhammadu Buhari; he is a man who understands the situation. Since Nigeria started, we have never experienced a President that has agricultural programmes like him.

“For 16 years, the road from Anambra to Enugu was overgrown with weeds but within four years, the road is being reconstructed and the same way they are doing it to Umuahia. This one that remembered us, may God bless him.

“Four years doesn’t mean eight years; he has finished his four years. I pray for peaceful transition that he may complete his remaining four years. He will hand over to a better person, may the Lord keep him. When he was sick, he was almost dead and we said prayer and God granted him healing. God knows the purpose for allowing him to be alive; if God doesn’t want him, he could have died.
“The roads that were not going has started going. A lot of things are happening now which nobody knows. May the lord protect Buhari; it shall be well with our President.”
Mbaka, few weeks ago publicly slating Peter Obi, vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for dithering in making financial donations to his ministry during its 2018 harvest and bazaar celebration.
“In your capacity and what God has done for you as Governor … God hates stinginess. What I am saying is not to please you, but what will save your life. Otherwise you and Atiku will fail, Mbaka had told Obi.

“If there is a place they will coat words for you, it is not at Mbaka’s altar. You can save your political destiny. Or in 2019, you people will not even know how they did the election. What will make my brother to come for bazaar and he won’t even break kola? Your own is taking time; the way you and Atiku [Abubakar] are moving will end in shame.”

Buhari’s 2019 budget a hopeless document – Saraki

The Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council and Senate President, Bukola Saraki,  has described the 2019 budget presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari as a hopeless document.
Saraki asked Nigerians not to expect much from the appropriation bill even if it is signed.
He stated this at an interactive session between the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on Thursday night in Abuja.
Saraki, in his opening remark, argued that the budget proposal presented by Buhari on Wednesday has no future because the statistics does not indicate the financial model by which it will be funded.
“Yesterday (Wednesday), we all heard the 2019 budget. That is a budget that has no hope for anybody because if you look at the statistics and the figures there’s poverty, if you look at the figures based on revenues that are coming in, there is nothing left. So where’s the future?
“There must be an alternative and that is what we hope that by this evening we speak to our candidate and vice presidential candidate, not based on sentiments. We are not voting on sentiments, we are voting on what is the need for you.
“How is your life going to be better? Which party offers you a better future because we see you as those who are patriotic and committed. It’s not about what you’ll get today. It’s about the great country a lot of you expect to see,” he said.
At the event, the PDP vice presidential candidate, Peter Obi, lamented that 60 percent of the 2019 budget was dedicated to debt servicing under the APC government which he noted has surpassed what was accrued in the 16 years of the PDP-led government.

Lawmakers Booed President Buhari As He Presents 2019 Appropriation Bill

President Muhammadu Buhari at the 2019 budget presentation to the National Assembly
President Buhari Presenting 2019 Appropriation Bill
President Muhammadu Buhari was given a rough welcome by a section of the joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday as he gave the speech that was expected to culminate in the presentation of the 2019 appropriation bill.
Buhari entered the National Assembly at about 12:40pm and immediately set about the business of the day.
However, he was soon shouted down with screams of “nooooo”, “nooooo”, “lieessss” when he started talking about the strides of his administration.
The shout was loudest when Buhari said “the economy has recovered from recession”, and that Boko Haram had been degraded in the North-East.
At some point, the President got visibly angry, abandoned his prepared speech, and told the lawmakers: “Distinguished members, let us conduct ourselves properly. The world is watching us; we are supposed to be above this.”
This brought some decorum, but only for a while as the shouts resumed when Buhari spoke about the anti-corruption campaign of his government.
As the speech wore on, though, his supporters made themselves heard as well, standing, clapping and cheering as he reeled off figures of infrastructural projects.

‘Sai Buhari, Sai Baba’ — How Buhari Was Welcomed To National Assembly For Budget presentation

President Muhammadu made a grand entry to the National Assembly for the unveiling of the 2019 appropriation bill on Wednesday, as a host of his supporters chanted his name relentlessly in the lead-up to his budget speech.
Arriving at about 2;40pm, the President was swamped by his admirers and adulators, amidst shouts of ‘Sai Buhari, Sai baba’, ‘Sai Buhari, Sai baba’.
Many of the lawmakers and party loyalists were seen thrusting their hands in the air, ‘stomping’ the ground excitedly and clapping along, as Buhari made his entry into the joint session.
Prominent among those pictured heartily cheering the President was Godswil Akpabio, a long-serving member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and erstwhile Minority Leader of the Senate, who crossed to the President’s party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), in August.
